I found my people! I am 43. At age11 I had a scab on the back top of my scalp. I starting picking at it. I loved doing this and did it until a few years ago. I liked to wait for the new scab and pick away. It eventually led to a dime sized hair loss. It never hitched. There was just something comforting about the process. A few years ago I just decided to stop. Then I picked the skin on my dry feet until they would bleed and it hurt to walk. About a year ago I stopped that new behavior. I still pick my split ends, but have no plan to stop that. At least it doesn’t make me bleed! I always was so ashamed of my behavior and hid it well. There were a few times people saw my head sore.

Anyway. The reason I found you today is I keep getting a scab on my scalp, close to my bang line. Okay. Yes I picked it. It has reoccurred over the last @8 years and I usually leave it alone, then it goes away. I am curious if this is a health risk.

      Hello Elizabeth,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment, and I apologize for taking so long to reply, it slipped passed me.

You are the second person within the last week that has mentioned scalp scabs close to or on the bang line. Is it just where the tips of the hair brush against that the scabs are forming?

Anyway this exact same thing started happening to a lady I know. Only where the very ends of her hair rubbed against her forehead and along her ear area (stye of her hair cut) it was driving her nuts with the itching. Come to find out after testing different brands of hair shampoo, she had a reaction to a certain ingredient. This ingredient I believe was some type of silicon.

This might be something for you to look into, or at least try changing your current shampoo and see if there is a change.

I like to keep my hair very very short. I always feel my scalp scabs are on display for everyone to see, it’s so embarrassing and you know people are starring. I found this blog and absolutely love the bandanna and overnight treatment idea. So simple and it works !

This blog is a lifesaver for me, thank you! That leave in treatment bottle is filled with nothing short of a miracle. I can not believe just how well it works. I’ve been scratching, picking at my scalp for years, spent more then anyone could image on shampoo products that are garbage and did nothing for me.
    Cheers

This is the second time I’m hearing about this method, and believe it or not, the first time was by my family doctor. You must be on to something here. Great advise, I’m going to give it a try. I want so desperately to clear up my scalp.

    Thank you.

      Hi Deeptaffets,

Leave in treatment was something, I stumbled on by trail and error. I hope you get the results you’re looking for, just remember, you also have to have restraint from picking too.

The treatment is great to heal the scalp, which is the first step, once the scabs are gone, you have to stop the picking or it just becomes a vicious circle.

It’s a great start, good luck to you!!

This is the way to do it, while you sleep!
My husband is always picking at his head and it’s gross. I now make him use the leave in treatment every other night. It works very well, his picking has really slowed down, his scalp looks much better.
Thanks for the tip on this product…
