Time to gather the ingredients
Picking the correct essential scalp oil for your condition is a good step, if targeting a particular ailment such as dandruff, dryness, hair-loss and scalp scabs
• Dandruff – tea tree and lavender oils are a great choice
• Dryness to Extreme dryness – chamomile and rose
• Hair loss – Rosemary and peppermint is often used
• Scalp scabs – any of the above oils and base oils will be soothing
Next is to decide on the base oil, picking one that peeks your senses is the way to go here, there are some nice choices for, a do it yourself scalp massage such as olive oil, sweet almond and jojoba oil, can’t go wrong with either of these.
The mix of these oils are nothing complicated, quit simple in fact. Each tablespoon of base oil, add and mix in two drops of essential oil, that all there is to it.
A small bowl is perfect for this mixture, and even warming it in the microwave is an option too.
Prepare the scalp and hair before applying
If your going to do a scalp massage, lets do it right, with a little pre-preperation for better results.
Spend a few minutes brushing the hair, this step is important, the hair should be detangled, any flakes will be loosened, that may be attached to the scalp with a good brushing, also it will give more body and start the flow of blood to the area.
Get ready, Get set, Massage
Begin the head massage, by dipping fingers into the bowl filled with oil, just the finger pads work the best, a good starting point is the area around the temples. A circular motion is best, and slowly work to the inside of the sore scalp meeting at the crown.
Pay attention to the areas where scalp scabs are present, be gentle, don’t cause pain, it’s relief your after.
Add more oil as needed and repeat as many times as you would like. A great little tip, bend at the waist to bring the head to a lower level and flip the hair upside down while doing a circular massage will really get the blood moving.
Here is the real kicker, this step will really have you saying, “WOW”, have a warm towel ready. After the massage, wrap a warm towel around the head. The towel can be warmed in the microwave for a few seconds, be careful not too hot.
Head to the bed, and lie down for awhile, with head wrapped warmly, relax with some soothing music. What this does, is give the oils a chance to absorb and add moisture.
After the relaxing treatment
So, you just gave yourself a great self scalp massage, and feeling great, what is next?
Two choices, wash the hair now, or let it sit as an leave in treatment till the next day, it’s totally up to you, no wrong way here, but leaving it in longer will be more beneficial.
Be prepared to do a double shampoo treatment, to wash out all the oils that are attached to the surface of scalp and hair, but don’t worry it comes out, just might take more then one wash.
If this, do it yourself scalp massage was enjoyable, consider doing it twice a month, remember it’s a treat, doing multiple time a week, month, may subdued the relaxing feeling.
Enjoy…
